Wading River ~ Long Island Sound November 2013

 ~
these two shots show the bulkhead
that was recently added to prevent
significant erosion ~ the whole hill
is starting to 'melt' downward
~
the bulkhead provides
the only available defense
~
its success stands in sharp contrast
to those sections not protected
~

 ~
where there is a bulkhead
the ground above is lush with shrubbery
~
versus other sections which
are slowly sliding downhill
~
taking any restraining vegetation
with them

 ~
the only footsteps
were those of deer
~
until we, of course,
clomped our way around the virgin beach
~

 ~
the hill is literally sliding down
 ~
Mount Kilimanjaro
~
~
one simply can't duplicate
the perfection of placement
that nature displays

~
no bulkhead
~
as the sand
relentlessly cascades downward

~
I'm still trying to figure out
who composed that sign on the left
~
all i can gather is ::
adults don't qualify as responsible adults
~
i could never live anywhere
but in a large city like New York City
~
but there is great beauty
still
on Long Island
~
