Spring Flowers - June 2010

Although Spring has not officially ended, we've moved on to roses and lilies, which are summer flowers, so I thought I would call it a season and release my top ten from my spring shoots.

One of my goals this spring was to try to capture the cherry blossoms in Central Park's Conservatory Garden at 105th Street.

And, the ones at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

Although I have been trying the past few years, due to a combination of rain and commitments, I had been unsuccessful. But this year was special.

It started with our wettest and 4th warmest March ever. Not surprisingly, the plants thought it was April. Then we had our warmest April ever. In fact it was the warmest April ever -- globally. Perhaps a sign of global warming?
Anyway, the magnolias bloomed the first week of April

and the cherries the second week.

We’re still running about three weeks ahead of schedule as the roses and lilies have shown.
I was able to spend one nice day in each location each week, so I got the opportunity I was looking for.
Flushing was a lucky strike extra.

I also spent some time in Central Park near the East 80’s, behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where I saw this pretty little tree.

I am particularly proud of these iris close-ups

as both photos were taken on my roof garden at the Amherst. It was particularly lovely this spring as well.

The final winner, in what was a very tough contest is this entry from an apartment on the Upper East Side. These tulips were truly fabulous.

What a great spring!
